Litigation Law Clerk Opportunity
DMG Advocates, a dynamic and growing boutique law firm in Toronto specializing in commercial litigation, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Law Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years’ experience in litigation and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Length of placement: Full Time (Hybrid)
As a Law Clerk with us, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our legal team with the following responsibilities:
• Assist with the management of case files, including organizing and maintaining electronic files
• Monitor and manage litigation timelines, deadlines, and deliverables
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other stakeholders
• Assist with file opening and closing procedures
• Assist with the preparation of court documents utilizing firm precedents and in compliance with the applicable court Rules
• Conduct proofreading and quality control to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation
• Manage process servers for service of pleadings
• Conduct factual research using online resources and databases
• Compile affidavits of documents, including reviewing documents for relevance and privilege using eDiscovery tools such as Relativity or Sightline
• Coordinate and manage document production, including instructing eDiscovery vendors as needed
• Compile court documents and briefs, including hyperlinking and bookmarking PDFs
• File court documents via the Justice Services Online portal
• Prepare summaries, chronologies, and other tools to analyze evidence
• Assist with calendar management, including diarizing court deadlines and scheduling meetings
• Provide support with preparation for examinations, mediations, and hearings
• Review transcripts from examinations and prepare undertakings and refusals charts
• Prepare costs outlines and bills of costs
• Provide general administrative support
You will be exposed to a variety of litigation matters, including the following areas:
• Small Claims Court matters
• Commercial Litigation
• Ontario Superior Court of Justice matters
Qualifications:
• Law Clerk diploma or a post-secondary degree in a related field of study.
• A minimum of three years’ legal experience as a Law Clerk/Paralegal in the Province of Ontario or a combination of education and experience.
• Experience with Automated Civil Litigation, Soluno, Foxit PDF, Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, iManage and CaseLines.
• Familiarity with the Rules of the Small Claims Court, Rules of Civil Procedure, Courts of Justice Act and regional practice directions.
• Ability to thrive in a team environment, employing good communication and social skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational and admin skills.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to acknowledge and action tasks in a hybrid environment.
